The herb saw palmetto is calledthe "plant catheter" due to its therapeutic effect on the neckof the bladder and the prostate in men. Saw Palmetto is widely used in Germany,Canada, the United Kingdom and now the U.S. for nutritionally benefitingthe prostate and urinary tract.
Saw palmetto blocks certain effects of certain hormones in thebody and also has some anti-inflammatory actions. Saw palmetto has been used totreat symptoms of enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hypertrophy, or BPH),such as increased night-time urination or decreased urinary flow. Saw palmettohas been used historically to treat stomach or intestinal problems, bladderirritation, and bronchitis.
